Trivia/Kitchen Remedies/Wisdom Points/Miscellaneous…

  1. Seasonal/mild fevers usually are self-limiting, and the affected person typically recovers within 2 – 3 days. But it is good to eat ‘Arrowroot Biscuits‘ during fevers of any type.
  2. If a fever persists beyond a week, seek professional medical help.
  3. It is good to drink ‘Tonic Water‘ once a year. Tonic water is carbonated soft drink containing ‘Quinine‘.
  4. Similarly, it is good to drink ‘Ginger ale‘ occasionally. Ginger ale is sweetened carbonated water with ginger flavor.
  5. For every 1 degree raise in temperature of the planet, Dengue cases in Africa could rise by 10.5%.
  6. All the human technical advances and control measures ended up producing a sophisticated disease carrier called ‘Mosquito‘.
  7. If you suffer from Constipation, the first food items to avoid are dairy products, viz., curds, yogurt, buttermilk. Don’t immediately opt for laxatives. Note that any anti-constipation medications, be it Allopathy or Ayurveda or any other, induces dependency.
  8. So, the best remedy is to alter food intake. Take lots of liquids (water and not alcohol please, see points 9-11 below) and have at least one fruit every day or have at least a glass of fresh fruit juice (not the packed ones we get in the malls/supermarkets. These are essentially used for mixing in alcoholic drinks/cocktails).
  9. Since I touched upon alcoholic drinks in the previous point(s), let me add something in that direction. Human skin/sweat generates about 350 unique odors, prominent amongst them are carboxylic acids, lactic acid, ammonia and octenol. These chemicals are produced by harmless bacteria on the skin (skin microbiota) and attract mosquitoes.
  10. Since, the amount of chemicals produced by the skin varies from individual to individual, some people are very attractive to mosquitoes. Also, the amount of the mentioned chemicals produced by the same individual varies daily. So, the same individual might be attractive to mosquitoes on one day and may not be on the next. Therefore, if possible, in mosquito infested areas, have bath at least twice in a day – morning and evening.
  11. People with infections like malaria produce lot of the above-mentioned chemicals which the malaria-carrying mosquitoes (Anopheles sp.) find very appeasing. The same can be said of people ingesting beer and other alcoholic drinks. Put simply, the more you drink alcohol, the more attractive are you to mosquitoes. No doubt Quran/Islam prohibits alcohol.
